Re-silicon my Bathroom
Bathroom silicon can become mouldy over time as cleaning has been neglected on a regular basis or the silicon was not applied correctly. Its quite an art to apply bathroom silicon but we at far out clean and handy have equipped ourselves to provide a professional cut out and replace service so that your bathroom truly be clean and feel fresh for you and your guests.
We follow the Selleys guidelines for replacement which can be found at www.selleys.com.au
Whether you’re removing silicone from your glass shower screen, metal laundry tub or tiled splashback, the good news is that for the most part, the process is exactly the same!
- Cut away the worst of the sealant using a sharp blade.
- Ensure the surfaces are completely dry.
- Apply Selleys Silicone Removeron the surface of the old silicone layering it about 3mm high (ensure you apply to a small area to test first).
- Allow 2-4 hours for thin beads of sealant to soften. Note that it can be significantly longer if the silicone is not cut back first and may require multiple applications. It is important to make sure the remover does not dry out while you wait the couple of hours for it to soften the silicone.
- Once the remover has softened the silicone, you can clean the silicone residue up with methylated spirits – do not use water.
- Next step is to apply new sealant to the area. Click here for the guide.
